I am an HCPC-registered art psychotherapist, registered under the name Sau Man Lau, working primarily in school settings to support children and young people’s emotional and mental wellbeing through creative practice.
My training includes an MA in Art Therapy and a Master of Applied Psychology. Together, these shape how I understand development, emotion, relationship, culture, and identity. In my clinical work, I use relational and non-directive approaches that prioritise safety, containment, and the language of image-making.
In schools, I work with children and young people who may be navigating anxiety, emotional difficulties, transitions, loss, low confidence, or complex life experiences. Through art therapy, they are invited to explore their inner world at their own pace, using drawing, painting, collage, clay, and other materials as ways of expressing what may be hard to put into words. My role is to hold a gentle, consistent space where feelings can be witnessed, processed, and gradually understood.
My clinical background underpins all areas of my work, whether I am sitting one-to-one with a child in a school room, facilitating a small therapeutic group, or developing community-based projects through The Holding Palette CIC. The same attention to relationship, presence, and containment also flows into my sumi-e and suibokuga practice through Kapok House, where slowing down and noticing imperfection become part of a wider conversation about wellbeing.
